Tips for Creating a Recording
Each project in our class has a speaking element. Some of you will have no problem with this. But others of you fear this like the plague. While you may be tempted to skip this part of a project, DON'T! Why? Because I said so! Well, okay, not really. But how about because there are some easy ways to tackle this part and feel proud of yourself for successfully completing all parts of a project. I've got three suggestions for creating a recording:
1. Use the Voice Board. If you have a microphone, this is the easiest option. Look on the bottom left of our course homepage, you'll see a "Communications" link in the Tools area. Click on this and you'll see a link for the "Voice Board." Here's where you can access the recording program that's built right into our class. You can create a "New" post and record up to three minutes of speaking. Just let me know that you've submitted a recording to the Voice Board when you submit your project.
2. Try a free program download. While Audacity is recommended throughout our class, I actually think there's a better alternative: Wavosaur. It takes less than a minute to download to your computer, and it easily saves your recording in a file that I can open (you'll want to choose the "wavosaur audio editor (en)", open and extract the files, then you're ready to go!).
3. Create a Voki. You can create an avatar of your choice, then give it a voice by clicking on the phone icon. You will be given a phone number to call and a passcode to enter. Follow the prompts to create your recording. When you're finished creating your voki, you will want to get a "Standard Voki link"; save this link so that you can submit it with the rest of your project.
4. Call me! That's right. Pick up that phone and call my voicemail. Leave your recording as a message. I check those every day, so I'll be sure to get your message. Need the number? Visit the blue "Staff Information" button.
5. Use your Smart Phone. Yes...I just discovered that my i-Phone has Voice Memos. After I create a recording, I can email it to myself. Then, I can save the recording!
6. Schedule a time to meet with me in Class Connect. What is Class Connect? A virtual chat room where we can meet and you can complete your recording. If you have a microphone and would like to use this option, just send me a message (click on the blue "Messages" button) to schedule a time that we can meet!
