How do I get started?
If you're new to online learning, the first thing to do is to take the time to go through your Aventa Orientation class that is listedn on your Aventa homeroom page to learn about getting around.
In our class, click the blue tab labeled "Orientation" or "Course Information." The "Getting Started section gives more details about our English course.
After you've oriented yourself to the online learning environment, you're ready to begin your classwork. Work in order, starting with the first unit. It's just like reading a book from the top of the page to the bottom of the page...don't skip around because you'll miss some very important stuff!

I need help! What do I do?
You're in luck! There are a couple of ways to contact me. First, you can send me a message by using the course message center; just click on the blue "Messages" button, select me ("Stacey Barnes") as the recipient, and write your message. A second way is to IM me; click on the blue "IM Ms. B!" button in our course; if I'm online, type your name, class, and question in the box. I'll get back to you lickety-split!

How do I create a new schedule?
If you find that the schedule I sent you when you first joined class is a bit out of date, make a new one! You'll find a link to the schedule in the blue "Orientation"/"Course Information" button. Plug in in today's date and your end date, hit "submit", and voila!! Save a copy to your computer by copying/pasting the schedule to a word-processing document and keep it handy to help stay on schedule.
What can't I upload my document?
This typically occurs when using Firefox as your internet browser; Firefox does not play nice with Blackboard, so you may find it difficult to upload a document. So, the quickest and easiest fix is to simply use another browser. The best one when working on Blackboard is Internet Explorer.
When will my work be graded?
All work is graded within 72 hours of submission; this does not include weekends or holidays (I like to enjoy those, too!). Typically, I can get to your work a bit quicker than this, but during extremely busy times (like May or June), it may take me the full 72 hours to grade your work. However, I appreciate your patience!
What is my grade in class?
Your grade is the Cumulative Total, not the Grade to Date. The quickest way to check your grade is to click on the blue "My Grades" button and look at your Cumulative Total.
How many times can I take a quiz/exam?
If you are in a regular, non-credit recovery class, you can only take each quiz/exam one time. This means that you should only click on a quiz/exam if you are ready to take and complete the quiz/exam. If you click on the quiz/exam but then navigate away from the quiz/exam or close out of it without taking it, you will earn a zero on that test. So, only click on a quiz/exam when you are ready to take it.
If you are in a credit recovery course, you can take each quiz/exam five times. Again, the same theory applies here: if you click on a quiz/exam, you must take it. If you navigate away before completing the quiz/exam, you will earn a zero on it. And a special note: The last score you earn is the score that receive. So, if you're satisfied with your score, don't click on the test again.

What is the password for exams?
If you discover that you need a password for an exam, well, then, you need a password. However, I am not able to provide that password to you. You need to talk with your mentor, who can find the password in the Mentor Resource Center.
What happens when I finish my coursework?
Woo hoo!!! Send me a message letting me know that you're all done. I will be sure to double-check that you've completed all assignments and quizzes/exams, grade your final submissions, and let your mentor know that you are all done. Then...Celebrate your success!!!
Any other resources to help me?
You betcha! While there may be a lot of information to grasp, there are many tools available to help you. The Student Toolkit will tell you everything you need to know about succeeding in the online classroom.
