Be of Good Character
What on earth does that mean? Well, think about the character traits of people you respect and admire. Chances are these individuals are honest, respectful, hard-working, responsible, trusthworthy, self-disciplined, courageous, help others, have a positive attitude, and exihibit good manners (to name a few). Many individuals who we admire have faced obstacles and challenges, but have not given up. They have made an impression on us because of how they treated us or others. They are individuals of good character. So, when you are working in your class, try to remember these character traits. Not only will they allow you to get along with others (classmates and teachers), but they will be a touchstone for you when times get tough. Let these words from the Greek philosopher Heraclitus guide you: "A man's character is his fate."

A Word About Cyber-Bullying
We all know what a bully looks like. For me, it comes in the form of three individuals who teased me mercilessly in third grade. For some of you, bullying is why you chose to pursue your education online. Unfortunately, bullying can also happen in the online world and is commonly referred to as cyber-bullying. Here are a few tips for preventing cyber-bullying:
What should you do if you are a target of cyber-bullying? First, don't respond to the bully and don't delete any evidence. Let an adult (teacher, mentor, parent) know about the situation so that he/she can take steps to keep you safe and protected. Know that you are not alone in your online journey!
- Don’t give out personal information online, whether in instant message profiles, chat rooms, blogs, or on web sites.
Don’t tell anyone your e-mail or instant messaging passwords, even your friends.
If someone sends a mean or threatening message, don't respond. Save it and show it to a trusted adult.
Don’t be a cyber-bully, because you just may find yourself on the other end of cyber-bullying down the road.
Follow netiquette rules and guidelines set by your parents, school, online school, and teachers.
